Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (substitute cornstarch or rice flour for gluten-free option)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter, divided
- 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced (about 2 tablespoons)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium recommended)
- 1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar
- 1/3 cup honey (local honey adds the best flavor)
- Kosher salt to taste
- Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
- Green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels.
- If thick, pound chicken to an even thickness of about 3/4 inch.
- Season both sides with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Lightly dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off excess.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat; add olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Add the chicken breasts; cook for 4-5 minutes until golden.
- Flip the chicken; cook for another 4-5 minutes. Remove from the pan and tent with foil.
- Add remaining butter to the same pan; reduce heat to medium.
- Sauté garlic for 30-60 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in soy sauce and rice vinegar, scraping up browned bits.
- Stir in honey; let mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
- Return chicken to the pan, turning to coat in sauce; simmer for 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat; let rest for 2 minutes.
- Transfer to serving plates, garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, then drizzle with additional sauce.
Notes
- Take chicken out of the refrigerator 15-20 minutes before cooking for even cooking.
- Cook in batches if needed to avoid steaming instead of searing.
- Add red pepper flakes or sriracha for a spicy variation.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
