Description
A rich and decadent caramel sauce that is perfect for drizzling over desserts or using as a dip.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon until the sugar begins to melt and turn a deep amber color, about 8-10 minutes.
- Once melted, add the cut pieces of unsalted butter into the pan. Be cautious as the mixture will bubble up. Stir until the butter is fully incorporated.
- Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. The mixture will bubble vigorously, so take caution. Keep stirring until the sauce is smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Allow the caramel sauce to cool slightly before transferring it to a heatproof jar or container. It will thicken as it cools.
Notes
- Store the caramel sauce in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- Reheat in a microwave or over low heat before using.
