Description

Raspberry Custard Buns are a delightful treat that combines the sweetness of custard with the tartness of raspberries. Perfect for breakfast or dessert!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup fresh raspberries
  • 1/2 cup pastry cream or custard
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until warm and the butter has melted. Allow it to cool slightly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well.
  3. Pour the warm milk and butter mixture into the dry ingredients, followed by the eggs. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. Spread the pastry cream or custard evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  8. Scatter the fresh raspberries over the custard layer.
  9. Roll the dough tightly from one long side to the other, creating a log shape.
  10. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them cut-side up in a greased baking dish.
  11. Cover the buns and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  12. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  13. Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  14. Allow the buns to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
